Many people feel more safe and secure meeting in-person in a private, confidential space. Office-based visits have the benefit of reliable personal connection and get you away from any other distractions. It can also be easier for the therapist to pick up on non-verbal cues and get a better sense of the energy in the room. An option can be to combine forms of therapy. If you are able to meet in person but would also like to do some virtual sessions, we can arrange this. Deciding to incorporate equine-facilitated therapy and nature-based therapy is also an option.
Virtual appointments have become more popular recently. There are many positive aspects to online counselling, such as accessibility and having the comfort of your own surroundings. I use a platform that complies with all privacy requirements. If you have reliable access to the internet and a quiet, uninterrupted place to talk, online counselling sessions may be a good fit for you. An option is to combine forms of therapy into the plan. One example is to start by meeting in person and then once we get to know each other better, we can meet online. The same combinations work well with incorporating equine-facilitated therapy into the treatment plan.
Equine-facilitated therapy (EFT) is an emerging field that has been studied extensively for the treatment of mental health issues. Very generally, it involves the client working with a horse (or horses) with the guidance of the therapist. Most equine-assisted interventions are loosely based on using feedback from the horse’s behaviour and interactions to provide insight and enhance the therapeutic process. Interactions with horses provide a unique opportunity and setting for clients to address treatment goals in a safe, non-judgmental, and experiential way. Most of the EFT done at Linn Meadow Farm is from the ground (no riding involved). Keep reading for a more in-depth description and to answer some commonly asked questions.
